Despite passing the lower house in 2016, it has yet to be ratified by the Senate.

However, the Dutch Gambling Authority has tried to cut down on the number of sites open to Dutch players, by implementing bans via a blacklist. From December 2016, the Dutch Gambling Authority have made it clear that anybody offering iGaming services (such as online casinos) to Dutch players can be fined up to €820,000.

Of course, this is of no concern to Dutch players, with the authorities only targeting operators, not players.

If the Remote Gambling Bill is passed by the Senate, then the likelihood is that the Netherlands will have a fully regulated online casino gambling market at some point later this year or beyond. The benefit of this is that it will mean that Dutch players will be able to play at national online casinos or any offshore sites which are licensed by the Dutch Gambling Authority. In the meantime, players are forced to play at offshore sites.

Banking options for Dutch players
