PDC Media Release – New dates

The inaugural PDC World Series of Darts event in Copenhagen has been moved back four months, with the Nordic Darts Masters now to be staged on October 23-24.

The sport’s top stars, led by World Champion Peter Wright and world number one Michael van Gerwen, were set to take on leading players from across the Nordic & Baltic region on June 12-13 at Forum Copenhagen.

With the global restrictions currently in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the decision has been made to move the Nordic Darts Masters to be staged later in 2020.

The inaugural event at Forum Copenhagen will begin on Friday October 23 with the first round, which sees the eight PDC stars drawn against the eight regional representatives.

The tournament then concludes with two sessions on Saturday October 24, with the quarter-finals in the afternoon session followed by the semi-finals and final in the evening session.

The four PDC Tour Card Holders from the Nordic & Baltic region retain their places in the tournament, with Lithuania’s Darius Labanauskas – a World Championship quarter-finalist this year – joined by Finland’s Marko Kantele, Sweden’s Daniel Larsson and Latvia’s Madars Razma in competing.

Three Danish representatives will also compete in the tournament, with the final place being awarded to a PDCNB qualifier.

The PDC representatives are also set to include Fallon Sherrock, who created history and worldwide headlines as the first woman to win at the PDC World Championship in December.

DARTS’ MADISON SQUARE GARDEN DEBUT POSTPONED TO 2021

The 2020 US Darts Masters, which was scheduled for June 5-6 in the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, has been postponed and moved back to June 4-5 2021.

The sport’s top stars, led by current World Champion Peter Wright, world number one Michael van Gerwen and history-maker Fallon Sherrock, were set to take on leading players from North America in June as the PDC’s World Series of Darts visited New York for the first time.

With the global restrictions currently in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the decision has been made to move the US Darts Masters and North American Championship back 12 months to be staged on June 4-5 2021.

All original tickets will be honored for the corresponding session of the 2021 event.

“There was huge excitement about taking the US Darts Masters to Madison Square Garden, not just from the players set to compete in June but also across the wider North American darting community,” said PDC Chief Executive Matthew Porter.

“However, with the ongoing worldwide situation we felt that the right decision was to postpone the World Series’ visit to New York for 12 months.

“This decision only strengthens our resolve to make the 2021 US Darts Masters and North American Championship a success as part of our global World Series of Darts tour.”

The US Darts Masters will begin on Friday June 4 2021 with the first round, as the eight PDC representatives take on the eight North American representatives.

The afternoon session on Saturday June 5 will then see the North American Championship take place, as the eight North American representatives compete in their own knockout event.

The US Darts Masters then concludes in the evening session on Saturday June 5 with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

WORLD SERIES OF DARTS’ OCEANIC TREBLE-HEADER MOVED TO 2021

The PDC World Series of Darts treble-header planned for Wollongong, Townsville and Hamilton in August 2020 is to be postponed for 12 months.

The World Series of Darts – featuring the likes of world number one Michael van Gerwen, World Champion Peter Wright and history-maker Fallon Sherrock – had been poised to visit Wollongong and Townsville for the first time this year as part of the annual Australian double-header on the global circuit.

Hamilton was also set to welcome back the sport’s top stars during August, following the successful NZ Darts Masters debut at the Claudelands Arena in 2019.

However, with ongoing global restrictions in place due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the decision has been made to move the events back 12 months to be held in August 2021, mirroring the move of the US Darts Masters in New York to now be staged next June.

The New South Wales Darts Masters is now planned for August 6-7 at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong to open three weeks of top-class darts action Down Under.

The Queensland Darts Masters at the Townsville Entertainment & Convention Centre will then be played on August 13-14 as the second event of the August treble-header.

The sport’s stars will then cross the Tasman Sea to Hamilton, with the NZ Darts Masters to be held at the Claudelands Arena on August 20-21.

“As with our recent decision to move the US Darts Masters in New York back 12 months to be part of our 2021 World Series of Darts, we felt that this was the most appropriate step for our Oceanic events given the current global situation,” said PDC Chief Executive Matthew Porter.

“The reaction of fans in Australia and New Zealand ahead of our World Series of Darts events had been extremely encouraging and we had been very excited about our planned debuts in Wollongong and Townsville as well as the return to Hamilton.

“To agree dates to stage the events in 2021 will now enable fans to plan with a greater degree of certainly for what should be three fantastic World Series events.”

UNIBET PREMIER LEAGUE’S MAY DATES MOVED AS REVISED SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

May’s planned Unibet Premier League nights in Glasgow, Leeds and London have been rescheduled for later in 2020, with the season also now set to conclude in Sheffield.

The Premier League season has been suspended since mid-March following restrictions imposed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, with the league nights affected having been rearranged during 2020.

It has now been confirmed that the planned events at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, the First Direct Arena in Leeds and at The O2 in London have also now been postponed.

In addition, the planned move of the visit to The FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield to Thursday July 2 has also been amended, with the venue now set to host the Play-Offs on Thursday October 15 as part of the new-look schedule, should no further events be affected.

Details have also been finalised for the rescheduled visit to The SSE Arena in Belfast, which will now host the Premier League on Thursday August 13.

The rescheduled dates are as follows

Thursday May 14 – First Direct Arena, Leeds – NOW Thursday August 27

Thursday May 21 – The O2, London – NOW Thursday August 20

The announcement means that the visit to Birmingham is now set to see the season resume with Night Seven on Thursday July 30, with The O2 hosting Judgement Night on August 20 as the ninth-placed player in the league table is eliminated.

Tickets purchased for the original league nights will remain valid for the new dates. Should any fans with tickets be unable to attend the new date, they will be entitled to a refund from their point of purchase.
